but what does it really mean and how does it help your golf game? To answer that question simply, there is no perfect golf swing and there is no perfect way to swing the club but the different pieces of the swing do have to compliment each other and not work against each other.
Here's an example:
Luke Donald has what would be considered an open club face on the downswing at P6 (club parallel to the ground in the downswing) and therefore has to actively close the face, or flip it, in order to square the club face up by impact.
Dustin Johnson has a closed club face at P6, because of this, he doesn't want to or need to close the face as much through impact. One of these players trying to release the club like the other would only make them a worse player.
This is what being "matched up" means. So when you're trying to fix something in your golf swing, make sure you have an understanding of what you are trying to fix and how that may help, or hurt, your ball striking.
In the video below, I go more in depth about match ups and how they effect your golf game. And always remember, just because you don't like the look of something in your golf swing doesn't mean it's wrong. Make sure that move or position you don't like isn't the result of something before it because fixing the effect instead of the cause is the easiest way to start hitting worse shots!
Today I talk about "match ups" and how there really isn't a better swing, just different parts that either work better or worse for you!
