We've all heard the term "swinging on plane" and getting your swing "in the slot" but what do those things really mean and how can they help your golf swing?
First let's talk about what the term "on plane" means. Essentially, on plane means swinging the club on the same line that is formed by your club shaft at address. Below is a picture to help show you what the swing plane is.
So the line that runs up the shaft at address is your swing plane. When a club goes directly up or down that line, the swing would be considered "on plane." If a club swings down that line and has a square club face at impact with solid contact, a ball will go very straight. We can see with Jordan Spieth's swing that the club is swinging directly down the plane line! When the club is off that line, say to far above or below it, you will hit hooks and slices. Understanding how our swing plane works is a valuable way to start understanding how to correct your critical ball flight error.
In the video below, I go into great depth about the swing plane and how you can easily work on this to correct your hook or slice and fix it forever!
